Hi,
The Peninsula is offering a Winter Escapes package that can include a one-way airport transfer with a Mercedes limo for THB 2700 or $81 US. For the convenience, that sounds high to me. Does anyone know about how much a regular taxi to the Peninsula would cost and is this an OK method of airport transfer? Coming off an international flight, we don't want to take an airport bus, etc.
Thanks for your help.

A taxi would probably cost you the equivalent of about $10 (USD)
I see the Peninsula has, achem, raised their prices just a little bit there. That's insane, IMHO, for transfer service...and by no means any sort of deal.
I would recommend using AAC (private limo service) directly @ the airport. A bunch of us here have used them many times. They'll charge you (last I heard) about 900-1000 Baht for Mercedes service (at least that's what we got when we used them) from the airport to the Pen. You can do a search on here for more info about them--look for their desk in the arrivals area at the airport.
Last time I stayed at the Penn I took the Rolls for about $80.
I wonder how much it is now?
BTW, it was worth it.
BKMK
We took a metered cab from the airport for 300 baht + 90 for tolls... It was the middle of the night, so there was little traffic. For the return we took a cab from the Pen back to the airport for a negotiated rate of 500 baht including tolls.
Film: Do I book this service (AAC) ahead of arrival for transfer from the airport to a hotel?
Thanks! (Four Seasons is offering a "special rate" for transfer--$75US)
Thanks for the info....I think I'll pass on this Winter Special rate because they won't let me have it without the airport transfer. (They were doing me a "favor" because the offer ended on March 31st...and we're arriving that day for 5 nights...and they agreed to extend it)
Might have to forgo the Peninsula experience unless I can find a better rate on another website.
I don't blame you, barefoot. It's one the best hotels I've ever stayed in--but what I thought made it so special was that you were getting 'all that' for relatively-speaking very little. Now it's just as expensive as its counterparts in Los Angeles and New York--and to me, it's just not worth it anymore.
BTW, ekscrunchy, you used to be able to reserve them in advance through their website. But I see the URLs changed (or at least the one I had.) Perhaps try contacting them via email. Last email I have for them: aaclimousine@yahoo.com
Also, I think it's just as easy to go to their desk upon your arrival. As far as I know, they're open 24/7.
Others who have been in BKK more recently could probably fill in the gaps here.
The limo service with a desk at the airport is AOT. Their prices are slightly higher than AAC. Take a look at www.aaclimousine.com I believe we used the booking @ address. They will be there with a sign to meet your flight. They specify which exit door to use from baggage claim. When you book a roundtrip, you get a 10% discount. Our roundtrip to the Royal Orchid was a little under 2000 baht plus tolls. (Yes, you wan them to use the ). You will pay your driver for the roundtrip (in baht) when he drops you at your destination.
barefoot, in my experience, hotel transfers arranged by the hotel are always way over priced.
reg taxi---300-400 B
Kathie, you FOUND THE LINK!

Thank God someone who knows what they're doing is around.
Have fun at the GTG tonight, folks. Cannot WAIT to hear how it went.
Kathie,
How did you like the Royal Orchid? The alternate to the Pen I was considering is the Shangri-la.....did you prefer the Royal Orchid? Thanks for the limo website info.
Thanks so much..I will send them (AAC) a request when the time is closer....(I leave in February).
Kathie is to the ROS as the Pope is to the Vatican!
I always stay at the Towers at the Royal Orchid, the club level that includes all the extras.
The Shangri-La is well regarded by many, and certainly has a fine location. (I'm completely in the minority, but I find the Pen cold.)
I would not disagree with the categorization that the Pen is cold. Their swimming pool certainly is freezing cold! I thought it was a great, efficient, handsome hotel but there is no kind of homey feeling there--perhaps a function of its size.
