Bangkok - Wat Pho - Reclining Buddha

This question is for anyone who has been to Bangkok recently. Is there still scaffolding around the Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho? We were there last year and there was, we'll be in Bangkok again in February and would visit Wat Pho again if the scaffolding is gone. Thanks!

I was there in July and the Buddha was surrounded by scaffolding and it had been moved to a small building, which made it almost impossible to see the Buddha.

The scaffolding is for the restoration of the mural paintings in the building. It was still there on Jan. 1; seemed to be there for at least a year more.

The scaffolding was along the inside of the walls where the merit bowls are placed when we were there December 26, 2002. It did not block the view of the reclining buddha at all.

We were just there, we could see the Buddha fine, it was wonderful. Even better -- in fact, awesome -- were the massages. Not to be missed. Do an hour with the herbs, for about 5 bucks, and float away...

The reclining buddha was fine when we went in November 2002. We took awesome pictures of the buddha from each and every possible angle. Be sure to walk behind it and get a shot of it's back and front, better to compare side by side when you get your pictures back.

I don't get it about the massages at the Wat. Does now keep on their clothing. How does it work? Is it really a good massage for that price?

The massages are as good as you'll have anywhere, these people are trained at hte temple which is the premiere school for the ancient art of thai massage. You keep your own clothes on, just take off shoes, and I think I saw some poeple putting on cotton massage robes. Big airy room with lots of people all being massaged at once. Go for the hour massage with herbs. EVery where else you go in Thailand, you will see massage places claiming "trained in Wat Po." But it's like the wine in FRance:not always as good as you hope. At WAt Po itself, you know it'll be great.
