Bali Or Italy/Greece

Hi! My fiancé and I are having a tough time deciding where to go for our honeymoon in October. We have talked about Bali, a Cruise (10 days in Europe from Athens) or just going straight to Italy spending 5 days and then going to Greece spending 5 days. Our time frame is leaving the US on 10/09-10/10 and returning back to the states on 10/21. Does anyone have any suggestions for these places? All opinions and suggestions are welcomed as we would like to book ASAP. Our biggest concern is weather for that time of year. Please help!!!!!

If you are concerned about weather, use a weather website like www.weatherbase.com

I'd suggest whatever you decide to choose one place, not two. If you have 10 nights on the ground, you have 9 full days. But if you have to go from Italy to Greece, you lose most of a day in transit.

IMO, Bali is more interesting than any place in Europe.

I've not been to Greece for many years, but Italy is one of my favorite places to visit, and I've gone back several times over the years. You may know I live in Bali so of course I'm biased in that direction.

Oddly enough, I think Italy and Bali share a lot of attributes -- natural beauty, art and performing arts, religious pageantry, friendly people, good food. (Gotta give Italy an extreme edge on wine and cheese, though.)

Having said that, Indonesia and Italy are very different destinations, in culture, climate, topography, cost, distance and overall experience.

October is a great time for Bali. The weather is good and the tourist season has wound down. The Rupiah is weak right now against the USD and it's a good value. If you choose Bali, you could split your time between a beach location and inland around Ubud. The advantage of Bali is that once you're there you can experience different environments without additional flights.

I'd suggest you look at the Seminyak/Petitenget beach area. The beaches are long and broad (though more lively than pristine) with big waves and wonderful sunsets. There are lots of excellent restaurants, clubs, shops, and spas in the neighborhood.

You could choose a luxury resort on the ocean or a private villa nearby.

Ubud is the culture and nature focus of Bali, with spectacular rain forest and rice paddy scenery and a whole array of arts, crafts and performing arts.

You could stay in the town of Ubud and walk everywhere or outside of town overlooking the river valleys.

I love Italy. In fact, I leave for Rome tomorrow and my family and I go back every few years. However, having been to Bali once recently and basing in Ubud and Seminyak, I think it is a PERFECT honeymoon destination for all of the reasons marmot listed. We stayed in a hotel in Ubud and rented a fabulous villa in Seminyak that was in walking distance from the beaches, fantastic beach clubs, restaurants and shops. I would give serious consideration to Bali. Good luck and congratulations!

I love both, but I too would only visit one country in 10 days.

you will find bali cheaper than Europe, but perhaps more expensive to get to and more time consuming.

weather should be fine in both places
