Bali or Fiji?

My fiance and I are getting married in India next December (2000) and are trying to decide whether to honeymoon in Bali or Fiji. Has anyone been to both or either places? What do you recommend?

I know this is a pretty broad questions, but I'll try to narrow it down by telling you that we're going to have a pretty intense (North Indian, 6 day) wedding so we'll probably need some relaxation and pampering but also, a little bit of action and adventure to wind down!

Looking forward to hearing some good responses.....

Hi Honey

I'd opt for Bali if I was you. Lots of reasons; closer to India so not so long to travel, therefore must be cheaper. Greater variety of accommodation styles and Bali is W O N D E R F U L. It will be very hot and maybe some rain but some of the 5-star resorts will pamper you to death.

As for action; you can white water raft, parasail, scuba dive or just action in the clubs of Kuta. The shopping is great and the Balinese people are a delight.

Hope this helps.

I have been to Bali 6 times and never to Fiji, so maybe this is a one-sided reply. But I think you would love Bali. They have great hotels like the Aman chain (if you have the money to spend) or the Four Seasons which is next on my list. I agree with everything posted above in terms of convenience of travel and pampering. Congratulations and have a great time.

Hi Beryl & Cheryl,
(Can't help but chuckle writing that!
Thanks for your advice. My fiance seems to be stuck on Bali -- and your advice, or gentle pursuasions, are certainly helping me make up my mind!
I've heard so many wonderful things about Bali, I do think that's where we'll end up! I think we might skip out on the fancy hotels -- or maybe just go for a few days right AFTER the wedding.

Well, I do have a year to plan so why don't I start doing some more research on the island...

Thanks again for writing!
There's no comparison. Bali wins hands down in all departments. Fiji is okay but not special like Bali. Be sure to stay at the Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay. It's the best place in the world for honeymooners. You'll think you died and went to heaven!

We are going to Bali in March and were in Fiji last November. We had a wonderful time and would go back without reservation.

Fiji is very romantic and restful. Perfect for a honey moon. I'd recomend one of the island resorts off Viti Levu, the Yasawas, or a cruise (not the Coral Coast). Castaway Island is very nice--moderate prices--or Club Fiji on the main isalnd if your on a tight budget.

The people are wonderful, December is prob not best time for Bali or Fiji.

LH

Honey,

You mentioned you had a year to plan your honeymoon. May I suggest 2 other
very special destinations - GOA in southern India or the Maldives. Both locations are terrific, close to India
and are top shelf as far as pure luxury and pampering.

Good Luck!!!

Hi

Fiji is fantastic for a laid back hassle free holiday. Islands are best, with fantastic beaches and wonderful staff - Matamanoa Island is kid free, small but beautiful with great food. Beach bures are terific. The islands are a dress down, barefoot kind of place. Not much to do except water sports and island visits and lazy evenings at the bar betting on frog races!! But you're on your honeymoon, so what more do you need??!!

Bali is much different, much more commercial with hotels everywhere and some hassles with pushy sellers. Also, there was a little trouble there recently.

Maldives, I've heard, is fantastic.

Hope you have a great time wherever you go,

rgds

Anne
