I have been very side tracked.I was in upstate N.Y. visiting my daughter in College. We just got her off to Peru.
Now I need to refocus to my trip to S.E.A.
I am now completry confused. My preference is to focus on one country for 3 weeks. With the comments that came in as to the weather in Vietnam Late Nov.-Dec. I am thinking we should skip Vietnam.
Our reason for going was to spend time with Katy but having heard back from her prefessor we will be spendig 3 nights in the Meking Delta. One day and night working with a farming cooperative, we would be studing about the economics of the Delta

sorry about that post. I was typing with our neighbors aggresive cat walking on my keybord and only part got posted and by mistake.

So just in brief since I am in a hurry. Our main reason for visiting VN was to spend time with our daughter, but thought we would like to see more of the country a long as we are there.However from the responces I got back we are going during the rainey season. We can go to Hanoi and HCMC. The central coast area seems to be the favorite area from friends we have talked to.
Finally to my question. Should we just skip VN altogether. We could spend 10 nights in Burma. I have been there and know where I want to go back to. Or is just getting a glimse of VN worthwhile, since It is not high on our list of places to visit in near near future. Any input would be helpful. Thanks

I just replied to your Siem Reap post...so what about doing Saigon and the Mekong Delta, maybe a beach in the south, then going to Siem Reap? In southern Vietnam, dry season is December to April, and I read that Nha Trang gets the least rain overall. You might consider there for a beach if beach interested you.

If you have 10 nights, you could do the 3 with your daughter, 3 in HCMC, and 4 in Siem Reap, or if the 3 with your daughter isn't included in the 10, add 3 more nights somewhere else, like Nha Trang, or spend more time in Cambodia...include Phnom Penh for a taste of Cambodia not subjected to mass tourism, or spend more time in Siem Reap and do trips outside. The Peace of Angkor website I gave you a link to in the other post has a lot of ideas for trips in the Siem Reap area, some that are a day, some that are over a few days.

I need to rework this since we now need to be in HCMS now on Dec1. Vietnam would feel more complete if we could see some of the central area. I really like to mix the highlites of the cities with the rural areas. I put in Mai chau as we do hot have time for Sapa. So many of my most magicial moments are from some of the more off the beaten track areas places. My husband is a history buff and does not shop. and I am interested also in history along with having contact with the local people, religion, temples, natural beauty and finding some time to shop.
I think we have to keep Chiva Som on the beginning in order to see our son who is teaching in Sriracha thailand. Contrary to very good intentions on this forum I do not mind starting at Chiva Som as a way to ease in. When i was there last year i was so busy all day with kick boxing, yoga, tai chi, pilates etc.. It was certainly not a beach experience, but definitly catered to.
Friends from here like ending up in Luang prabang since it is layed back.
I think your post on Cambodia got deleted. As some of mine have. I would appreciate the infromation, since you seem to have a wealth of it.
I don't know how this forum works is it better to send my email or will that get deleted also?
One last notation. I really don't like traveling around as much as this trip, but I keep postponing Ankor Wat when in SEA. Along with Laos. So I want to visit the places I have missed in the past.

You question and Kim's response on hotels in Siem Reap is still here. If you can find one of your posts, just click on your name, and your posts will show as a list.

I thought you said on your post about your itinerary that you were going to cut central VN becaus of the rain. I think that's a good idea, and it would give you more time in Hanoi. Hanoi is a delightful city and well worth some time in the city, not just on daytrips.

We are on our way out to dinner to look over this iteniary. We have both been on the go so much that my husband has not had a chance for any imput into where we are going. He just picks up information from friends and clients.
I hope to finalize it this weekend.
