asiarooms.com?
Hi, Just a quick question. I have read favorable comments about asiahotels.com and was about to book a slew of rooms with them, but I just looked at asiarooms.com and the prices are much better. Has anyone used asiarooms.com before? Are they reputable? Is there another discount hotel company I should compare with before making a final purchase? Thanks for your help.

asiarooms.com is very competitive pricewise and has received good reviews on this board - just be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully since you will have to pay 100% up front - there are penalties if you have to cancel or make a change.

Shop around, always check the final rate that you are being charged, note which ones include tax/service/breakfast.
Look at Tripadvisor and other forums too to get ideas of who says what about whom and opinions on different services.
For Thailand I stick with local operators who provide local information about places not just a list and prices, I choose those who feed thru Sawadee etc, personaly I would never use anyone else.

Strange as it may be you sometimes can get the best hotel rates using the hotel booking portion of airline sites like American or Delta. They seem to get the best rates for cities they serve. Look for the "Book Hotel" tabs. Delta and American - the two I've checked - seem to use the same booking system as the pages that turn up are the same on both sites.
The only downside is to get these e-rates you need to pay upfront. But, if you have locked in your travel dates this moght be a good option.

i still prefer www.huahin.20m.com for rooms in thailand and a few other places...all the places are quite competitive rally

I just had a horrible experience with asia rooms. I'm in BKK now and booked the Hilton in Hua Hin as a stop on my way down to Koh Samui. The reservation never went through. When I got to the hotel, there was no record. Calling asia rooms was a bust as the person who answered the phone the first time spoke no English. A second, third, etc calls went unanswered. What I thought was going to be a $77 room turned out to be a $150 room. Not worth the money. Best luck to date is with huahin site.

in june when driving between pattaya and jotiem, up in the hills i saw a small street sign for the sheraton....it pointed down toward the sea....i think it is somewhat remote...i think james mentioned this early this summer, if i am not mistaken...it should be quite nice however

The Sheraton Pattaya is int ethe area between Pattaya and Jomtien, very good views, this is not what you would term a beach resort by any means, they promote as more like a luxury country club and that description fits well, but if you are looking for closer to beach then it wouldn't suit, but rates of about USD 110 are a bargain and even high season I think it's up to about USD 150 which is like half what you might pay in other resort areas for such quality. It is 109 for Garden view and 129 for Ocean view on Starwood's own site as a pormotion, if you have Starwood points you can probably get some good deals.
It's about 1.5 km very near Pattaya Water Park.
If you know the Royal Cliff area then that is roughly same locale.

I couldn't remember how many times I have been Pattaya. Most of the time I stayed at DUSIT RESORT. I want to try something new this time.Then I found Sheraton opened in Pattaya,but unfortunately I couldn't get any (Traveller's review) from the internet and they didin't provide many photos of the hotel such as swimming pool. I dont' want to be dispointed when I check in. Please tell me more.

Kooler, if you want someplace new in Pattaya, check out Sugar Hut hotel. Now, I don't care for Pattaya, but this place is a dream: Ayutthaya-style stilted buildings (one per guest/family), incredible landscaping and flora, fine thai food, etc. You feel like you are far away from the madness. Unless, of course, you want the madness.... i booked through sawasdee.com

I agree Sugar Hut is great, but it's a way to the beach, though not too bad, it used to be in a different location years and years ago close to the beach at Jomtien.
If you have stayed at the Dusit and like it I just wonder whether you might be best off sticking with a place you know and enjoy.
The location of the Sheraton is in the Royal Cliff area, in fact if you liked the Dusit but felt you wanted a change perhaps it is in fact the Royal Cliff that is worth looking at. Being in that area is easier to get to places like Underwaterworld and Pattaya Water Park is good for lots of swimways.

For the benefit of the readers here, the Thailand Travel Forum (sister forum of the Bali Travel Forum) does have one or two disgruntled users of asiarooms.com and the Forum does list them in their Name and Shame section. In all cases, the problems come in obtaining refunds, not with the service itself - the Forum Administrator even posts to explain that this is the case. As it has been said over and here on the Fodors Asia Forum, it always pays to read the fine print when it comes to refund policies.

I should also point out that the Thailand Travel Forum's "Name and Shame" also lists Siam-Hotel.Com, Asiavoyage24.com, Hotels-Thailand.net, Thailand-Hotels-Phuket.com, Thai-Hotels.com, Thairooms.com, Hotels.Siam.net (Siam.net), Thailand-Hotels-Online.com, and Thailandrooms.net as problem sites all run by the same company.
