Are teens dressed in costumes in Harajuku on days other than Sunday?

Hi, We will be in Tokyo during the New Years holiday 12/31/14-1/2/15, and were wondering if there would be any teens dressed in costumes on days other than Sunday ( since we don't be there on a Sunday). Has any one had any experience during the holidays?

There were costumed teens in Tokyo on days other than Sunday during May 2006.

I think the teens at the Harajuku station in odd dress is highly overrated anyway. We were there in nice weather in springtime and there were not that many of them. Our own teens traveling with us weren't too impressed. What impressed us much more was the two traditional wedding parties/processions we saw at the Mejii Shrine inside the park. Admittedly those might only occur on weekends. Also, the stroll down the Omotosando dori and lunch was really nice. It's a great street if not too cold outside.

The entire area isn't full of cosplay teens even on a Sunday... they're mostly along the short stretch of road, my brain's gone blank on what it's called, with lots of teen fashion stores on it. They'll likely be around Saturdays too, or if it's school holidays, seems a fair bet they may be there on weekdays...

I agree that catching a traditional wedding party at the shrine is very cool.

Hi, thanks for all your comments. I will be on the look out for a wedding. Perhaps we will have more luck in Kyoto since that won't be during the New Years celebrations. I am not that set on seeing the teens, but I thought it might be interesting. I will see how close Omotasando dori is to where we are going on various days .. the weather so far has been quite moderate in Tokyo
8 days to go!

According to this site,
http://www.cosp.jp/event_list.aspx?l...&d=201501&e=03
the top 3 events on 31 Dec are

1 Tokyo Lesure Land

2 Washimiya Jinja

3 Vivit Minami Funabashi

But I suspect they could be relatively small ones. The one at Tokyo Big Sight on 30 Dec got much larger popularity (5845pt).

Considering the Harajuku cosplay phenomenon is in School textbooks from the 1990s, I feel that the genuine scene is a thing of history, the initiators have moved on and all that's left are a few who dress up for the tourists in the same way as street artists imitate movie characters in Hollywood. I may be wrong, and Harajuku certainly has a few funky stores but I didn't feel it was worth going out of the way for.

Being near Meiji Jingu, which is worth it, especially over New Year, it doesn't hurt to check it out. Omete-sando is also interesting and Kiddyland Oriental Bazaar are good places to pick up souvenirs and the 100 yen shop is stocked for tourists! I believe there's a new TI just opened
