Are knitting needles allowed on ANA?

I doubt the TSA controls what happens in Japanese airports so whilst you may be able to take them, will you be able to get them back? I would check with the airline. Even then, in my experience, airport security staff tend to have their own interpretation of the rules.

Thanks for your replies. I called ANA and they said it's up to the discretion of TSA, that they may consider anything with a point a weapon. The TSA website says they are allowed. I'm only concerned about the U.S. to Japan leg of the trip. I'm not going to even try on the return trip as I have had my needles confiscated before. So I'll give it a shot and hope for the best. Anything to make the time pass...

Knitting needles are allowed - TSA says so. Why are you still worrying?
Now, IF there is a terrorist threat between now and your flight that involves knitting needles . . . then sure, the rules could change. But that isn't very likely.
