Anyone been to Le Royal Meridian on Koh Samui?
My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon to Koh Samui in mid-april 2004. I would greatly appreciate any comments and/or recommendations on where we should stay. 1. We are looking for peaceful accomodations, beautiful beaches and a more seclusive atmosphere where we can relax. We had looked into the Le royal Meridian but I am concerned about their beaches. Are they nice? The resort is located on a cliff so I am wondering if it is difficult to get back and forth from the beaches to the resort? Also, there are only 3 resorts on this stretch of the island which worries me a bit.
2. We would like the option to travel around and see other parts of the island, too; but having not been there before, I don't know how long a trip from say, Le Royal Meridian to Chaweng Beach would take.
If you have not stayed at the Royal Meridian, but recommend another resort, please advise! We have also looked into the SANTIBURI DUSIT resort as well. Thanks!

I visited Koh Samui for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and decided not to stay at the Le Meridien precisely because it was so far away from anything. We wanted to stay at the Dusit, but it was undergoing renovations. Instead, we stayed at the Tongsai Bay, and had a very nice time. It feels quite isolated, but is only a 15 minute drive to Chaweng Beach and close to other locations you may be interested in (snorkeling, elephant ride, etc.). The hotel's website is http://www.tongsaibay.co.th/index.htm. We stayed in the Hideaway Cottage (#215) for about $300/night, and although I think that looking back we would have been just as happy in a cheaper room, like I said, we were not on our honeymoon. Hope this helps!

The Boat House Samui is right on the beach, it is one of the most romantic settings I have ever seen, a honeymoon hotel if ever there was one.You can even have your own rice barge to stay in if you want, It is not far from Chaweng beach and the Songhew (Taxi Truck) calls regularly. I recomend the tailor just along the beach for low cost and low prices, take your favourite outfit and they will copy it for you.

I agree 100% with Juls, the Boathouse is great and those Rice Barges, classic, really turns a stay at a resort/hotel into something quite unique. Otherwise Peace resort is good. Meridien is bad location. Dusirt Santiburi is Excellent but pricey.
I really would take a look at the Bothouse, it is quite something, try this site for lots of pics and info about all those hotels.
