Any advice in finding affordable airfare from the UK/Europe to China?
Hi all,
I'm hoping to plan a fantasy trip for my husband for his birthday next year. We live in Edinburgh and could find cheap fares to London, Paris, Amsterdam on various discount airlines. Any tips on finding airfare from the UK/Europe to China? I know it will be the most expensive bit of the trip, but we're on an extremely tight budget so every little helps! I've never gone anywhere in Asia and am finding this all a bit daunting.
Thanks,
Gila

BA, Virgin, Air China fly between London-Beijing and London-Shanghai.
BA, Virgin, Cathay, Air NZ, Qantas fly between London-HK. Air NZ is usually the cheapest. Though sometimes BA and CX have fare sales so I'd keep an eye on their websites.
Alternatively, try 1-stop routes. KLM, Austrian Air, Finair seem to offer competitive prices.
Also, what time of the year do you plan to travel? I would avoid time around Chinese New Year, in addition to the usual peak travel seasons. May/June or Oct/Nov are less pricey season while the weather is still reasonable (in general).

We were thinking of going next May so that should work well. Thanks for the info - I have tons of websites that show the carriers between European cities but this is my first try at Asia. I'll look through those options.

If you live in Scotland the Emirates flight Glasgow-Dubai daily non-stop might suit you, Emirates continues to various destinations in China, which destination?
I don't know if you have flights to Frankfurt but Lufthansa has good coverage in China, they have 7 - 8 flights per day !
Daily to Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai from both Frankfurt and Munich and daily to Guangzhou from Frankfurt, also to Nanjing.
You also have the airlines such as Thai, Malayisa, cathay, Korean etc plus those directs.
Air France via Paris also.
It can depend which destination in China so you can whenever possible fly direct and not have to connect domestic too much.
