Hi, We're in BKK right now, just checked out River City mall today and fell in love w/ lots of things. SO: how much are the prices fixed there (can we bargain in the same way as most places) and are there other shops/stores with better prices ?? We are looking for unique higher end decor.

If you back to River City, take a look at two stores very near there. They are on the soi going to Charoen Kreung bending around to your left after you walk past the Royal Orchid Sheraton. We saw some very nice items in these stores in November.

Bargain 'til they drop. Remember this is a natural part of the purchase process and is most effective when done in a cooperative spirit.

So the River City seemed a little less willing to bargain than the others. We got a drop of maybe 15-20% ? And shipping seemed to be expensive 450-800 US, for a set of wood itesm weighing maybe 300lbs to Texas. Doesn't this seem high ?

Also, we are looking for a good pace for exotic leathers but at better prices than the duty free ???

I had no problem getting the price down at the place I went to. Of course, it took time and I left and went back the next day and kept bargaining, but it was worth it. I got what I wanted. Happy Travels!

Expect that shipping will often double the price of what you are buying. Shipping from Thailand to the US is quite expensive.

Note that there are many different antiques dealers in River City. If you can't ge the price you want from one, shop others and see if your expectations are realistic.

Guen's advice to come back the next day and continue the bargaining is good.
