Ankor Wat - sunset , sunrise, itinerary

We have a private guide booked for two days at Ankor Wat. He suggests watching the sunrise . Does anyone recommend watching sunset as well or is sunrise the most spectacular ?
This is his suggested itinerary -

Day 1: catch the amazing sunrise and visit Angkor Wat, breakfast at the hotel and visit Angkor Thom including South Gate, Bayon, Baphuon, Elephant and Leper King Terrace. Lunch around the temples, finish the day after the visit of the jungle clad temple Ta Prohm.

Day 2: hike up Phnom Bakheng for the spectacular view of Angkor area, continue to Preah Khan temple. Possibility of visiting more temple along the grand circuit. Afternoon, visit to the floating village on the Great Lake Tonle Sap.

Any comments ?

Personally, I'd skip the floating village.

Have you look at Dawn Rooney's book yet? I'd go to Banteay Serai instead. I also was not all that impressed with the view from Phnom Bakheng. But look at Dawn Rooney's book, and you can look at our photos as well at www.marlandc..com/Angkor-wat

What Kathie said. Can you do sunset the day you arrive?

I'd ask the hotel for a packed breakfast. Better to lunch in town/hotel and wait for things to cool down a bit before the afternoon visits.

Spectacular though the sunrise is if you get a good day, it will be very, very crowded which somewhat detracts from the experience and makes photographing the sunrise difficult. I would ask you guide to catch the sunrise at one of the quieter spots.

The villages on Tonle Sap frequented by most tour guides are not worth the effort. Travelfish.org has some good info on less visited alternatives further out on the lake.

Banteay Serai was my favorite temple.
