I have lived in Japan for two years (I am an American). We live very far north in a pretty rural area. We LOVE Japanese food, but obviously eat it most of the time we go out, being that there aren't many options up here.
I will be in Tokyo for five days and would like to treat my children to a couple of fun American style meals. We will be staying near Roppongi, but will be hopping around. Where would you recommend (no fast food but restaurant chains are fine).
American food in Tokyo... looking for suggestions

I am no Toyko expert (been there maybe 8 times) but I would say go to Roppongi Hills (mall) and/or the Grand Hyatt there. Several Western cuisine choices. See http://www.roppongihills.com/en/. The Grand Hyatt has numerous restaurants, including a good steak house. For a splurge, try something at the Ritz-Carlton nearby which has great views.
Please do a post on unusual places to go in the countryside of Japan! I am not a fan of Tokyo, but love the smaller more traditional places.
I see Denney's all over Tokyo and have eaten in the one next to the Hilton in Shinjuku and in an El Torito's(a fav of ours from CA) in the Shibuya/Shinjuku vicinity. Of course all the KFC's and McD's but you have them in your prefecture I'm sure. See here for more specific info on the better Tokyo restaurants.
