Amakusa island help

Jump to last reply

We will be on Kyushu for only a few days and want to visit Nagasaki and Amakusa island. My wife's ancestors were from somewhere on the islands so we would like to at least drive across them. We will arrive in Nagasaki on Feb 1 at 14:15 and fly from Fukuoka to Korea on Feb 5. Our plan is, spend 2 nights in Nagasaki then on Feb 3, rent a car, drive to Kuchinotsu catch the ferry to Oniike. We would spend the night of Feb 3 in Amakusa city. On February 4 th we will drive to Fukuoka. I know this is rushed but are unable to add any days. Is this doable? How difficult is it to take that ferry and to drive across Amakusa? I've driven in Europe and Korea but never Japan. It looks like using public transportation would be impractical. My wife has a limited knowledge of Japanese. Thanks for any help.
