We're planning a trip to Bangkok in a few months, and we haven't had any luck getting seats using our Delta skymiles(we were trying to book business class).
DH is 6'7" and needs a little more legroom than offered in most coach seats. We tried to book through Delta on NWA, but they won't assign exit row seats until 90 days out. Korean Air(another Delta partner) won't reserve exit row seats in advance.
We are considering flying to New York or LAX and then taking Thai Airways or another airline with premium economy seats. I would love to hear from people who have flown between BKK and the US and have suggestions. We looked at the sale fare on Singapore, but my husband wants to find out his options for seats with more legroom, even if the fares are higher.
Thanks for any info you can give about possible routing via an airline with greater pitch between seats.

barb, Thai doesn't fly from NYC anymore (they ended their service there a few years ago.)
your only options, as far as I know, are Thai Airways out of LAX , EVA Air from Newark or LAX or ANA from LAX or JFK.
I've flown EVA in Premium Economy and think it's absolutely fantastic (and usually very reasonably priced, when compared against ANA or Thai.) I've only flow in Thai Business Class, but their PE+ product looked to very nice as well.
Since you're closer to JFK/EWR, it might make more sense for you to look into EVA or ANA.
On a side note, some might consider United's Economy Plus to be comparable to Premium Economy on these other carriers...I wouldn't.

i have found that getting bus class seats is often difficult...
its best to try to book 331 days in advance on most airlines and 352 days for korean....
within the 90 days you might do better on booking and also on the seat assignments....things tend to open up....this is a good year for it..
Long layovers in London, and the prices may not be attractive, but one option is British Airways. Total flight time very good from ATL to BKK (not including the layovers), and only one connection each way.
For the LHR-BKK leg, you can also choose to fly on Qantas' new premium economy.
I think Singapore Airlines still offers premium economy, and they fly out of Dallas (or is it Houston?).
Thai still flies nonstop from LAX to BKK with premium seats on their A340-500, but such a long long flight. You might be better off with a shorter flight into Narita on ANA + a connection to BKK. People are reporting excellent fares on Singapore at the moment - I don't believe I've heard of premium on that line.
Seatguru shows Exec Economy on SQ's A345 only (guess that's premium) and I believe it's from LAX and EWR to Singapore
SQ also has an all Business Class A345 to the States
SQ does not have executive economy anymore. All their A345s have converted to business-class only for SIN-EWR and SIN-LAX non-stops.
SQ has A LOT of flights to/from the US that aren't non-stop. That's not your only option, and if you're looking at price, you need to consider the one-stop flights (and really, would a layover in Hong Kong be so bad?)
I don't think SQ will allow a layover in Hong Kong with the cheap fares.
I tried making a dummy booking and the fare from Houston to Bangkok is only $960 but in economy.
Also I think only SQ 1 stop in Hong Kong on the way to/from SF or LAX.
SQ flies from JFK-BKK and is running specials through November 30. It stops in Frankfurt and Singapore.
Was speaking for myself. Next time I go back to the US, I think I'll give Thai a miss and use SQ.
The SQ special fare is almost gone. Their website was jammed over the weekend and I had to call to speak to an agent for booking which was $25 more for each person. Given the plane is so packed, it is not likely that there is leg room for anyone.
SQ flies out from JFK to Asia is usually aound or under $1000.
SQ flies out from Newark is $6000+ last time I checked. It's a much shorter flight.
By the way, just singapore-JFK is 25 hours. Somehow flying back takes much longer.
