Air China is telling me NO to my cpap machine....

...after two calls and multiple explanations of what a cpap machine is, what it is for, how it doesn't use oxygen, how small it is, how other airlines all have policies about it, blah blah blah, because the people answering seemed totally clueless. Then they said they were forbidden because of "asbestos" but never could get any enlargement on that excuse. They make it sound like it isn't allowed on the aircraft at all, and the supervisor must be out to a really long lunch (i.e. not interested in making the promised return phone call).

Their website doesn't mention cpap at all, positively or negatively.

Anyone current on Air China and Cpap?

rhkkmk, have you traveled specifically on Air China?

I know that other airlines have no problem with my machine when I am traveling abroad...that's why I wasn't expecting Air China to insist I couldn't carry it on. I don't much like the idea of playing cpap roulette - not knowing if I can carry it on or not. I don't much want to consign it to my luggage. I won't be carrying enough to protect it adequately in checked baggage, even if I liked the idea of letting it go through checked baggage (which I have never been willing to do before, ever).

My husband has definitely brought a cpap on board Air China flights many times. He always brings it in carry-on baggage。 He says that it does get close inspection but how close varies according to the personnel. He has been slowed down a bit but never detained to the point of missing a flight.

Me too. Totally clueless. What on earth is a 'cpap machine'? And why do you need it? A medical device or entertainment gadget? How big is your 'need'?

I had no problem with Air China and my cpap machine. No question or pause. Everyone seems to know what it is by now.

I don't think they have asbestos in them, if that is their complaint. They are made of plastic. Sounds like the person giving you that info is clueless. Just take it , and be prepared to have it examined closely if they ask.
