Accomodations in Sri Lanka / Mosquitos

I will be in Sri Lanka from 24th nov. to 16th dec. 1999 and still looking for nice AND cheap accomodations. How bad is the mosquito situation at this time? Is is a must to carry an own mosquito-net getting along in cheap or decent accomodations?
Thanks a lot for (any other) helpful tips, including places I shouldn't miss...
