HI All,
I am looking to be in Sri Lanka from the 1st till the 22nd of December.
I love traveling but only booking my accommodation last minute as i feel like you wont know how long you want to stay in a place until you are actually there.
Do you think i might have a problem finding accommodation at this time if i do not book ahead?
Any help would be great!
( i was once stuck in majorca without a place to sleep and dont want to do it again

Hotels in Sri Lanka are likely to be fully booked out in December and last minute choices can be very limited. That said, I also like to travel "free range" and hate to be tied down to dates/bookings/deadlines so fully understand your query. If one is willing to accept cheap guest houses etc then one should always find "something".
If you are at all choosy about where you stay, book ahead.
I was in SL in January 2011. I was unhappy with my Kandy lodging and spent an entire unproductive morning looking for something else. I'd recommend booking ahead, maybe with the option to cancel without penalty.
My experience was exactly the same as Thursdaysd in Kandy in Feb 2011 and we just could not book anywhere near Yala at all even with the help of our, very good, guide. Traveling back along the south coast to Galle it was easier to find accommodation. I too would strongly recommend booking ahead.
@crellston. Right, booking a month or so ahead I could get nothing for Yala. Well, aside from one place with absolutely awful reviews.
