A hero in Myanmar: A man who does his job

I thought you might enjoy this piece - I found it an interesting and telling piece about a country in transition.

This traffic cop in Thimphu. Bhutan, is also renowned and the locals come to watch him perform at the only roundabout in Bhutan

His job, however, is ten times easier than the chap in Yangon-have you seen the traffic there.....?

Thanks for posting the article. Indeed traffic was awful in Yangon. At least they ban scooters so you dont have them weaving in and out. interesting that they give him money.

Craig, glad you liked the article!

Silverswimmer, we haven't been to Myanmar yet, but have been following the many reports on the board. I'm fascinated by cultures in transition. I'll have to check out the video. Of course, for utter chaos, there's Varanasi!

Yestravel, I know, I found the idea that they give him money interesting, too. A holdover of corruption or cultural norm? Maybe a bit of both. Although it doesn't appear much like he's at risk for becoming the corrupt traffic cop.
