$766 for Siem Reap flight?
Hello:
I am travelling with my wife and two year old daughter from Bangkok to Angkor Wat in October2003. Is there a cheaper method than Bangkok Airways ($766 round trip)?
Thanks!

The only non-stop flights from BKK to Siem Reap are on Bangkok Air. That's why it is so expensive.
You can go overland cheaply - but it's a long, hard day each way. You could also fly from BKK to Phonem Phen and take the boat to Siem Reap - it'll be cheaper, but also take the whole day. Frankly, I wouldn't do either of those with a two year old.

it is expensive for what it is...but as far as i was able to determine last fall you can't do any better....don't you get a reduction for the child....can't she be held on your lap...its a very short flight....the plane we went on was tight 2 and 2.. 55 minute flight we were very impressed with bangkok air...they will put you in their lounge before you go which is very nice....free internet and light snacks...good for the kid..
have you talked to bangkok air's new york office--they are very nice and helpful---they have an 800 number or e-mail...
i think i paid about $577. for the two of us for a nov 10th flight..
i tried many outlets for cheaper tickets and was not successful, including bangkok travel agents
forget the $$, its worth it....it will be tough with a little one however...it is very hot when touring...make sure you have a driver with an a/c car --$20/day and a guide, an additional $20/day...it will make all the difference in the world, believe me....would you consider hiring a baby sitter to stay in the car with the girl when you go off for a look around..????..probably your hotel can arrange it for very little money and the babysitter would be very trust worthy i think..just a thought...

Bangkok Airways has a monoploy on the route, for a 50 minute fligfht it is very very expensive. The route to Koh Samui is also expensive and is way out of reach of local residents. Unfortunately you don't have any choice if you want to fly, the land options not that good.

Bangkok air was offering a Discovery Pass which allowed you to travel in Thailand and Cambodia. You have to buy a minimum of 3 coupons, each coupon good for one flight. The cost from Bangkok to Siem Reap is 80US for an adult and 60 for a child or in your case 440US return. In addition there is airport tax amd maybe insurance surcharge. They can only be obtained through a travel agent so you might check if the offer is still good and if seats are still available.

Discovery Pass coupons to fly between BKK and Seam Reap cost $50 per leg. You have to buy a minimum of three - for the total cost of $150+7.50 tax. Make reservations as early as possible - only a limited number of Discovery Pass seats is offerred on each flight.

All:
Thanks so much for the intelligent reponses.
Flying is our only option, and if
that is the price of the flight, so be it.
I just wondered if there was
something I was missing.
We will be following up on the
Discovery Passes.
Babysitters, temple guides, and drivers of air-conditioned cars:
Yes to all three, please.
We have previously used
babysitters in Vietnamese hotels, and been very happy.
We will be doing so again in
Siem Reap. Thanks again!

Hi,
Just back this weekend from Cambodia and have been using a Bangkok Airways Discovery Pass. Worked out cheaper than the Bkk to Siem Reap return. International legs are $80US and Domestic are $50US (plus a small tax) Minimum of 3 legs and max of 6 - we did Bkk to Siem Reap, to Phnom Pehn and back to Bkk - 3 legs (2 at the international rate and 1 domestic) - $80 + $50 + $80 thus $210 plus a little tax. The only problem is there are limited seats allocated to the pass so you could have trouble getting seats near to the time - book ahead if you can.
We hired a guide for 3 days who we found through this forum - she was great. If you want any more info let me know - email me - [email protected]

A great guide to use in Siem Reap is Mr. Sen. [email protected]
On both of my recent trips I have used him and can not say enough good things about him. He will be your driver and guide for $25 day. He meets you at the airport and is at your service 24/7. Born in SR and university in PP.
He always gets you the best deals. And will tell you as much or as little as you want to know about everything Angkor!
Use can use my name if you contact him.

Just a note on the Discovery Pass. I found that the best way to get what you want is to email Bangkok Air directly at [email protected]. They seem to be able to locate and book more Discovery Pass seats than travel agents or their USA office. On one set of flights their USA office said they were sold out of eligible seats. I then emailed them in Bangkok I found out there were seats available and was able to book them right away.
