6 hours transit in Hong Kong
Any advice for a 6 hour transit in Hong Kong please? (from 6pm to midnight). I know in Singapore there is a swimming pool available at the airport but it doesn't seem to be the case in Hong Kong. We looked for short night tours from the airport but couldn't find anything.
Will we get really bored if we stay (and we may have to) at the airport? What time do the shops close?
Thank you.

Hello/Salut MietteMeg --
Actually, it is very possible to do something. The Hong Kong waterfront is a spectacular sight, especially in the evening, from the Promenade in Kowloon. There is a laser show every evening at 8pm, and it's a wonderful way to pass a few hours in HK.
You can take the Airport Express to Kowloon, and then take the free shuttle bus to either the InterContinental or the Kowloon Shangri-La. The Promenade (also called Avenue of the Stars) is behind these hotels.

Thanks/merci Rizzuto. How long would it actually take us to get there? If we went by taxi would it much more expensive? We would be tired as we would just come off a 12 hour flight! It would be nice to be able to do something but we don't want to have to rush too much!!!

Take the Airport Express. It runs every 15 minutes, and takes about 20 to get to Kowloon or 23 to Hong Kong. Buy a same-day roundtrip ticket (either before you board the train at the airport or after you get off at your destination) for the same price as a one-way. HK$100 (US$13).
The easiest is take it all the way to the Hong Kong terminus. It's steps away from the new pier for the Star Ferry. Take lower level, HK$1.7 (US$0.25) back to Tsimshatsui. Maybe you can time it to watch the laser show while on the ferry, but don't stress over it.
It's more lively at night on the Kowloon/Tsimshatsui side. From there, you can either take Star Ferry back to Central/Hong Kong and catch the Airport Express, or take a free shuttle from one of the major hotels in Kowloon back to the Airport Express station in Kowloon.
Or if you don't care too much about shopping and neon signs, take the Peak Tram (HK$20 one-way, HK$30 roundtrip) up Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island for a good view of the city. The Peak Tram station in Central is a 20 minute walk, slightly uphill, from the Airport Express station, so you may want to take a taxi (should be <HK$20) to get there.

I suggested the Promenade especially because it is an ideal place if you are tired are don't want to do the things that require effort and attention. On the promenade, you can walk around, or you can sit and relax, all the while enjoying both the world's most amaxing cityscape and some wonderful people-watching.
A taxi trip would probably be about HKD600-800 return, and the Airport Express would be about 110HKD return per person. It takes about the same amount of time either by taxi or train. You could take a taxi directly to the promenade from the Kowloon train station -- that's about HKD40 -- if you didn't want to take the shuttle bus.
Amitiés,
