4-5 days in SE Asia

Hi All,

I'll be doing a tour of Vietnam in early September (most likely) from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.
Once my tour is completed, I was hoping to go somewhere else to experience a different culture/country while all ready 'over there' (from the US).

I would like to avoid Thailand at the moment due to civil unrest.

I would really like to have access to a nice beach, with great food as well. It doesn't need to be fancy, nor does there need to be a party scene ( I would prefer there wasn't actually).

I will be traveling by myself, so a place that is safe for female travelers would be ideal.

On my list are Singapore and Penang for the food culture, but I don't believe there are many beaches? (I could be wrong).
I'd love to see Angkor Wat, but I may have to save that for my next trip, as I'm really craving some relaxing time
Maybe Bali?
Let me know if you have any thoughts!

I'd say Bali, no question.

But I also love Penang, beaches outside Georgetown, to the north.

Been to both for extended stays on my own, love them both. Singapore just named the most expensive city in the world, I forget where. But yes, very expensive and doesn't sound like what you're looking for.

1. Bali
2. Penang

Thanks!

Money isn't really an issue, just time unfortunately!

I will look into both Bali and Penang and will go from there!

Bali would be a great choice for you.

While I love Penang, the beaches there aren't great. The food, however, is fabulous.

And Singapore wouldn't really fit what you want.

Early September is a good time for Bali -- dry, sunny, and quiet. I'd stay in Petitenget, the north end of Seminyak Beach.

If money really isn't an issue, look at The Legian Hotel in Seminyak. All rooms have big sea-facing balconies. Get a studio suite.

If that's outside the budget, The Colony is a lovely spot and a good value. Not right on the ocean, but just a few minutes walk to Petitenget beach.

The Petitenget/Seminyak area has dozens of restaurants, shops, spas within walking distance. It's quite safe. There are frequent ceremonies at Petitenget temple and on the beach nearby.

Seminyak beach is a long sandy big wave sunset beach. It's swim-able, but the surf can be rough.

If you want a calmer swimming beach, look at Sanur.

You really should try to stay a couple of nights in the Ubud area while you're in Bali. This is the center of arts and culture, plus stunning scenery.

If your 4-5 days includes travel time, this will be hard to fit in. You can make a day trip, but it's better to try to spend the night.
