Hi all,
I'm from Singapore and am planning a trip to Osaka next month.
I'm wondering if anyone could advise where I could purchase a 3G pre-paid data SIM card for my iPhone 3GS so that I could stay in touch with my mom back home via Whatsapp to allay her worries while I'm abroad. Auto-roaming is out of the question as my telcos here charge exorbitant fees for the service.
Would really appreciate any information or English links.
Thank you.

I use my iphone while in Japan but you are right about the roaming charges. My wife rents a local phone from rentafone Japan. Reasonable prices and more importantly phones that work. Hope this helps.

I used the same company for our October trip. We didn't bother with a phone SIM but rented a mobile wifi device, which we used to connect to the internet on our Google Nexus tablet and one of our phones.
They do also rent phone SIMs, as HawaiianTraveller says.
