hello Fodorites,
My wife and my two sons (ages 5 and 2 1/2) will be in Thailand in December of this year to celebrate a very dear friend's 40th bday. We are flying into Phuket on Dec 22nd, but the rest of our crew arrives on Dec 26th. So in the meantime, we need to find some things to do until the rest of our travel party arrives.
I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions. I'm reading some posts and am interested in checking out the elephant park. Any other wildlife parks worth checking out? Tiger parks etc.?
Once our travel party arrives we will celebrate in Phuket from the 26th till the 31st. on the 1st we will leave to go to Cambodia for a few days to see the temples and then back to the US.
Any ideas/suggestions are welcome. Even if we have to travel outside of Phuket we are willing to do so.

Hello, Vietnam

Phuket doesn't have the greatest beaches, so in case you are after a beach consider moving for a few days to Koh Phi Phi for instance which has a nice beach and a nice lagoon, suitable for kids.

Also Raileh beach near Krabi is quite nice.
There is also a national park not too far from Phuket, but I haven't been there and I wonder how interested your kids would be.
Phuket does have some lovely beaches. While you can go to PhiPhi if you want to, it's a ferry or speedboat ride away and I'm not sure you want to do that with small children.
The kids will likely enjoy playing at the pool more than any excursions you can plan. So relax and enjoy the beach.
Also, I wouldn't go to an elephant park in Phuket. If elephants are important, go to one of the two well-regarded elephant parks outside Chiang Mai.
In considering hotels, I'd suggest you look at one of the local booking sites: www.sawasdee.com is one I've used
Phuket to Phi Phi is done with a comfortable ferry, suitable when travelling with small kids:
