2 weeks in sri lanka

Looking for any help with our holiday itinary. As usual works got in the way and we've planned nothing apart from the flights.
We land 12th march for 2 weeks. Mostly we would just like to relax near to the beaches and get some good days surfing, although we won't be taking our own boards ,any rental ideas. We land in the afternoon and we would like to escape to the coast straight away and get away from the city.
Would really like to see some of the culture but not for too many days. On previous holidays we've rented a car and enjoyed driving on to new places when we want, but sri lanka doesn't sound like the ideal place to drive.How do we find a good driver. Any help would be appreciated especially for the first night we arrive. apologies for the lack of question marks.cheap computer. thanks fez
