My fiance and I are planning our 12-day mid-September Thailand honeymoon! We want to visit Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and either Phuket/Koh Samui. I would love to hear from others pros/cons & hotel recommendations of Phuket and Koh Samui. While we would like a quiet, beach getaway, we also wouldn't mind having somewhere to go at night off of the resort. Which would be better for that - Phuket or Koh Samui? Any recommendations for good value, 4-star hotels/resorts in Phuket or KS? Has anyone ever used jetsetter.com for Thailand hotels?
Where to stay in Bangkok & Chiang Mai? I'm familiar with Shangri-La chain as I've stayed at them in the Philippines.
How many days should we spend in each city? Ideally, we'd like to spend as much time as possible on the beach so my thought was 2-3 days in Bangkok, 2 days in Chiang Mai and then the remainder in Phuket or Koh Samui.
Thank you!

Bob is right, September tends to be rainy at both the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. On the other hand, if you don't mind some rain, you can get great prices at resorts.
Sept is the monsoon season in Phuket, expect thunderstorm and wet condition. Samui is a better choice compare to phuket at this time of the year. My blog has a list of recommended hotels that I had stayed in thailand, you can click on my profile if you are interested to find out more.
Sept there are also monsoon rains in Samui. That's why it is a difficult month to find beaches in Thailand.
