10 hour layover in Tokyo Narita Airport

So on the way to San Diego in July me and a friend will be having a stopover in Tokyo Narita Airport - it's on a Tuesday arriving at 7.05am in the morning and flying off at 5.25pm that same afternoon.

Is it possible to go into Tokyo in that 10hr layover? I know that it will be at least 3hrs getting in and out of immigration either way which cuts down time to 7hrs. Then take into account travelling to and from Tokyo another 2hrs so cuts down to 5hrs in Tokyo itself. I know it's tight but I've never been to Japan so I would love to go and just get a glimpse of it.

If it's possible what would you recommend to do in those 5hrs - I love sightseeing just famous sights and possibly some good food wouldn't go awry.

If it's not possible then I'm happy to just do somewhere close by - any suggestions on what I could possibly do otherwise?
