So, now that most airlines allow only one checked bag for international flights, which suitcase to buy? 25 inch or 29 inch? I just bought a 29 inch hardcase Delsey on sale at Macy's....and am now thinking I should have went with the 25 inch because if I fill the 29 inch to capacity, I will have to pay baggage fees, right?

By the way, I am going to India with my son and husband on Lufthansa...each of us get one checked bag.

You are probably ok with the 29-inch bag. It just depends on what you put into it. The weight limit for bag and contents is 23 kg. That is about 50 pounds. That is a lot.

I just travelled with a bag in that size range and it was pretty well stuffed. It came out at about 15 kilos.

Of course, you don't have to pack the 29-inch to capacity, if all you need will fit into the 25-inch.

Try to take only enough stuff to fill less than the 25 inch bag. And pack it into the 29 inch. That way you'll have space for stuff you will undoubtedly buy in India.

Last month even we, pretty good at not buying stuff, had half a dozen items (which easily fit into one of our two 18 pound checked bags).

a 29 incher is huge. Just because you <i>can</i> doesn't mean you <i>should</i> take everything/kitchen sink. Plus, are you OK schlepping a 29" suitcase places other than at the airport . . . up/down stairs, on public transport, etc.?

Even a 25 inch bag can be too big in some situations, but at least it would be more manageable.

Odd, since a 25 inch bag isn't allowed as carry on almost any airline. Or are you blowing smoke again?

The size of the bag is totally dependent on the traveller. I always take a large bag (often, two of them) and yes, they can be a PITA when hopping on/off of trains. Luckily, we almost always have a car, and I don't have to do the lugging. But when I'm packing all my new purchases, I'm happy I have the space in my big bag(s)!

I have a spinner, but it is not my favorite bag to tote. It's a cheap pink/white polka-dotted bag from Bangkok. It is never mistaken by another traveller for theirs!! lol It is an expandable one, so quite a bit of space.

A 29 inch bag is huge. But we bring a lot of things home, so we are now the owner of a 29 inch spinner (save your receipt; the ten year warranty requires it, and wheels tend to break off), since my wife likes a spinner. The one thing I looked for was handles (our new one has a grip on the bottom), to make it easier to pick up this monster to get on a train or into a cab.
