Are you a little discomforted or what? He is just sitting there snoozing while we think we are safe. We need to get real, people. There is no safety in the air.

And the good news is!!! they are now govenment workers, I am the only that is scared???????????? you know it takes an act of Congress to fire those folks. You are right there is no safety in the air unless you are flying the national airline of Isreal, they have armed guards on their flights...

We have been bamboozeled by Democrats to federalize workers. Just higher pay for the same incompetence.

The whole "government workers can't be fired" nonsense is an urban legend. Simply not true.

As proof, read the following:
http://www.cnn.com/2003/TRAVEL/01/06...ner/index.html

Actualluy the reason he fell asleep is because the job is crap in the US. Poor pay for poorly educated people. Many of the people who work in US airports previously worked in Burger King or KFC as their career. In Europe, one earns substantially more working in airport security than in a burger bar and it is regarded as a respectable job.

Also, we treat our workers properly and make them take regular breaks as looking at compiuter screens is very tiring. We also check vision as this is crucial.

Read The Economist and you will be disgusted by the ongoing lack of security in America's airports.

To the above poster. "actually, the reason he fell asleep is because the job is 'crap'". Wow~! He took the job, didn't he? And I believe they make upwards of 35,000 a year. For that, we should expect that they at least stay awake. I bet they don't snooze thru payday.!!! It is my observation that security has actually gone downhill. Today, in our local paper, a FAA rep said he would rate our airport on a scale of 1-10 as a 4.!!!

Ummm, Jed, the airport workers were federalized because of the Bush administration. In case you don't know, they are not Democrats.

A similar situation occured nearly a year ago, note similarity of stories in below links:

2/19/02
http://www.whas11.com/topstories/WHAS11_TOPSTORIES_Airport_security_breach.2c69748. html

1/9/03
http://www.komotv.com/stories/22304.htm

Sandi

The reason he took the job is because any fool can get a job in a US airport. It is as easy as getting a job in McDonalds and not much better paid, particularly when you think of the hours a worker will sometimes have to work.

As The Economist has unearthed, even people with poor vision can get jobs checking the screens on the X-Ray machines that check hand luggage in America's airports.

In addition, employees are not given regular breaks and little or no ongoing training with the job.

Obviously you are a league above most humans and can concentrate on staring at a screen for long periods of time day in / day out.

In Europe, we recognise that this is a trait most humans do not possess hence why we pay people doing these jobs a decent salary and give them lots of breaks to rest.

"We have been bamboozeled by Democrats to federalize workers" - Jed

Funny, the party who alledgedly hates big government is succeeding in making the biggest government bureacracy ever. Anyone with opposing views is accused of helping the enemy. Does anyone remember Kruschev banging a shoe on the table and telling us how things would be under our children/grandkids? It's happened! We've become everything we once accused the Reds of being! Soon our children will be asked to report their parents' "un-American acts"

All part of "Operation Eroding Freedom"
