What is the United Lounge like at LAX?

We are flying out of LAX to SYD on New Years Eve and have passes to use the United lounge - a perk of getting their credit card. Is that a good lounge to hang around until our 9:15om flight? Since it's New Year's Eve, we were considering leaving the airport to go to dinner, but someone told us those lounges have food and drinks. It would be easier just to stay there.

No food except some crackers, chips and cheese. Some alcoholic drinks are free, but they also offer premium ones for a price. You cannot bring outside food inside.

When are you arriving LAX?

We are checking out of the airport Hilton and have time to kill until our 9:15 flight. Trying to figure out what to do in the meantime...

Do whatever you feel doing in L.A. But not at the UA Club except for the last hour or so waiting for your flight to depart.

I'd try to get as late a check-out as possible from your hotel.

I will try to get a late check-out at the LAX Hilton. We will see what they say. No we are not affiliated with any veteran programs, sadly!

As it turns out, I have been told we wouldn't be able to use the United lounge because we are flying Air NZ out of terminal 2 and I was told we wouldn't be able to get past security at any other terminal because our boarding passes will only get us into terminal 2. Is that right?

You can't go airside w/o a boarding pass for a flight out of the specofic terminal - so, no, if you are using a different terminal you can't go airside to the lounges.

No, it is good. Spending the day at the UC was not a great plan.

You could walk to a rental car lot from the Hilton. Budget is close. Get a car, come back to the hotel and load the luggage. Go out for the day. After dropping off the car, take the shuttle from the rental car lot to the airport. Or use taxis to go out (e.g. to Manhattan Beach) and back to the hotel for their shuttle to LAX.
