Using mile Capital One

Try to call their Travel Center back. I got someone who provided very complete information.
First you need to know the miles deducted per fare.

Basically,
You can book the ticket yourself, charge the fare on cc, submit paperwork within a given time period, and then receive credit for the fare (at which time the mileage will be deducted) OR

Have the travel center book the ticket, in which case the miles are automatically deducted.

Why go through booking it yourself? Because the Capital One Travel Center does not always have access to the lowest fares. So you need to first check the best fare that you can get (internet or other), translate that to mileage deduction, and then see what the travel center has to offer. They will check specific flights and airlines, so I always have my preferred itinerary up on my computer while talking to them.

Thanks thats what I wanted to know I can book it myself now all I need to find out is the mileage deduction part. Will follow your itinerary suggestion.

I always book my own and once the charge shows up on our statment, redeem the points right then and there. It is easy to follow the instructions and do it right then and there. Everything is spelled out clearly on their website for redeeming travel points. I've never had to speak to anyone. Basically, any air ticket $350 or less, "costs" 35,000 points (that means 35,000 points from $0 to $350 so the closer you get to $350, the better for you in point utilization). Then, it goes up from there - there is a chart available. This also applies to hotels, car rentals, etc. I don't think that gifts are a particularly good use of points as there is too much variation in prices in stores or on the Internet.

A thought. I assumed that you have Internet access to your Capital One account since you are on this site. If you don't, then I guess you will have to talk to someone.

Your right I don't have net access to account as I had a really big mess a few years ago with online banking hack in my accound and since then have no credit or banking accounts on line. However thanks for the info the chart etc. I agree about gifts - who wants a 400,000 point TV <G>

JoanneH, since you don't have Internet connections, here is more detail on the points needed from their website (I had forgotten about the 15,000 one):

15,000 travel up to $150
35,000 $150.01 to $350
60,000 $350.01 to $600
100x travel cost $600.01 up
