USAir/AA - December flight
I have read the websites, been notified of FF mile programs combinations. Will be booking several flights for several people in both directions Christmas week and prices are still reasonable. Currently USAir flies that route almost hourly. No info on whether AA will be picking up these routes. Would you feel OK booking these flights now?

Not sure what you mean "will AA be picking up these routes." There is no intent to cut any USAir flights, and certainly not on one of the shuttle routes where landing slots and gate space is at a premium.
It seems early to me to be buying December flights, but I'd not be concerned about the flights going away.

Since there is no overlap USAir/AA on this route, I was thinking a shuttle would be fairly safe from flights cuts.
I agree it is quite early for December - but last year RT DCA-BOS right around Christmas was $350-400. I can still get each way for under $100. Daughter's grad school commencement is early in the week - not going to change date of that; and other trips are for family flying in for Christmas - and that date not going to change either. Trying to grab a bargain.

What makes you think there are going to be flight cuts? BUY the tickets; if there are flight cuts then you'll be put on another flight. What i would do is periodically check on the reservation on line. You are not going to get an email notice, necessarily, of a time change from AA/USAirways I can tell you from experience.

I don't understand the concern, either. Since you are familiar with pricing on this route, buy the tickets. I have always received time change notifications from AA and US Airways, but Dukey's right, check periodically to see if changes have been made. I, too, have read that there is no intention to cut flights because of the merger.

If you do book now, definitely check the route periodically. I bought tickets months ago for later ths month for an international flight. They changed my final destination to another airport that I did not want to go to and I was not notified. They really just have messed up my flights and I'm a bit nervous. My situation may be different than yours as my route wasn't exactly an overlap, granted the airports were two hours away from each other. No big deal to them I guess.

We have AA award tickets to Barcelona, SFO through JFK, in October. I'm checking each week to be sure 1) the entire flight is still in place as booked and 2) the equipment (flat-bed seats) is still the same. Trying to avoid any surprises.

I have a LOT of trouble believing that a final destination airport was changed and a passenger wasn't notified unless that airport was in the same city or nearby. Love to hear the particulars of THIS one.
Imagine, thinking you were going to be landing in Copenhagen and you ended up on Malta instead!!!

Yes Dukey it did happen to me. Neither I nor my brother, who booked separately, was notified. When I check my reservation on line even still it gives my original destination. I was supposed to fly PHL direct to EDI both ways. This route was cancelled and it became PHL to GLA. Why you ask? Because the new route is JFK direct to EDI. How can we make a 10am flight home from GLA when our last night is to be spent in EDI? It's possible but puts more stress on us as there is no direct route unless a taxi which was very expensive. My brother also leaves a week before me to come home so that's money times 2. I would never have bought the ticket if I knew they would make this change. Maybe you missed my post asking this question on the Europe board. It was still the same country but imagine you planned to fly from Florida direct to EWR but instead your final destination is now Philly? It's the same thing.

J62- I already had the flights changed when I noticed the different destination. The point was, the airline did not contact me. I had to google to find out what happened with my booking. They had my correct email address and phone number on file. I confirmed when I called them. I don't understand why I should have endured stress or find a workaround for something I didn't cause.
I was worried because when I received a change notice a few weeks ago, at the time of my first post on this, I went and checked my reservation again. My first leg home, EDI to LHR was missing but the flight from LHR to PHL was there. I was hoping I didn't have to get myself to London the night before which was worse than Glasgow the night before. It took me 8 phone calls between both US Airways and with British Airways to confirm that yes I still had a flight from EDI to LHR. I then received a confirmation email 5 days later with all the flights and they now all show on my reservation. For all I know, they might still change me to GLA without me knowing until I get to the airport.
