United Mileage Plus Program

Jump to last reply

It looks like United did start their new program on March 1st. I returned a few days ago from a trip to Athens leaving on Feb 28 and returning Mar 8. Below are my miles earned from the trip. Since the ticket was only $664, my award miles were really low for the return flight 1,400 award miles vs. 4,267 premier qualifying miles.

Airline activity Award miles Premier qualification
Date Description Base Miles Bonus Miles Total Miles Miles Segments $

3/8/2015 United 133-K class
Munich-Washington (IAD) 1,000 400 1,400 4,267 1 $200

3/1/2015 SWISS 1838-Q class
Zurich-Athens 1,955 782 2,737 1,013 1 $391

2/28/2015 United 936-K class
Washington (IAD)-Zurich 4,158 1,039 5,197 4,158 1 $189

So far I haven't received details on my Lufthansa flight from Athens to Munich. My status is Silver so I get what amounts to a 40% bonus for post Mar 1 flights as opposed to the old 25% bonus with regards to the award miles.

The thing that hadn't been clear to me is that it is still miles flown that will determine if I make Silver again this year.
