Seems like United has socked the traveler again with high baggage fees . Used to be as late as last November that you could check in 2- 50lb bags for free on international economy travel- now they want $100 for a second bag, The only way around it is to be Gold elite or military.
We are traveling in September to the Philippines so we have to see if we can get by with one one checked bag and one carry on- this is going to push carry on bags to the limit and beyond- the overhead bin space just got more precious!

Bill, would the United Explorer credit card help you out with this?? Not sure what the percs are but it seems baggage might be included, as well as boarding with the 'premier' line.
I have the Explorer card but it does not help.
We will fly domestic - 1st bag $25, 2nd $50.
Well... for convenience of the schedule we went for it.
