Tickets to Costa Rica, what would you do?

Need 3 tickets to CR around Xmas time, they are VERY expensive ($900-1000/pp) from our home base, CMH. However, I noticed that Spirit Airlines flies to CR for relatively cheap from FLL($425/pp). Too early to book Xmas flights on Spirit, too early to book on SW or AirTran CMH-FLL. Here is the stinger - do I take a chance and wait, or do I respond to the rising fuel prices and pay beaucoup bucks right now? What would you do? Any alternatives I haven't thought out? Thanks!

I don't really know what to tell you, but between it being Xmas and the rising fuel prices, I rather think that you are not going to find less expensive fares. Hope you do.

Get a Crystal Ball.....

The point is that nobody and I mean NOBODY can predict what is going to happen in 6 months or even in 3 months. What if there is a total blow up in middle east next month? and the oil prices surge to $200 or more? or perhaps there is calm and peace and the oil prices drop down to $50?

Buy your ticket when you're comfortable with the price and don't look back.....

btw, Costa Rica is a great, beautiful, exotic, fun place to visit.

Go a bunch

www.spirit.com

Usually best can fly their big front leather first class

seat lots cheaper than coach on the majors.

Get their Free Spirit CC for free flights cheap fares

for me RT FLL Bogota last November FREE including all tax

www.jetblue.com has deals on econo sometimes

Econos cheapest...

usually prices drop a tonne in the fall so I would wait.

www.kayak.com/buzz best screening sites for the majors

www.travelocity.com posts up great fares

www.gotmyfare.com great fly drives for CR like the

Pathfinder from $500 all in.

So Happy Hunting,

As everybody else says, there's no way to know anything for sure. This might be the best you can do for Christmas week. Fares are always high then.

Spirit does not fly out of Columbus, Ohio, so that presents a problem of buying a separate ticket and thus paying about the same fare by the time you add it all together that you can pay if dealing with only one airline or airline alliance.

I would not feel comfortable with 2 separate tickets. If a big storm hits and flights are grounded you'll lose your vacation. Don't know if travel insurance would cover this.
