refund on miles...Delta award now available for 30 thousand miles less EACH

Greetings,

I have two first class tickets booked via award travel from LAX - HNL for the first week in November. Our schedule has changed slightly and we can go a few days early. When looking online the tickets are now available for 30,000 miles less EACH - so a total of 60,0000 miles.. I am going to call Delta (which to me is similar to sticking a hot pic in my eye) and see if they will refund the miles?? I am very curious to see what the outcome is..and if they are going to charge me the 150.00 or whatever it is per ticket to do so? :-? Anyone of you travel experts have any experience with this...

I don't know if they can simply reissue the award and put the difference back into your account. If they can, it would be $100 per ticket for the reissue fee. If not and you actually need to redeposit (also $100 per ticket) the old awards and issue new awards, you may also have to pay the close-in handling fee on the new awards because you're within 21 days of departure (this is waived for Platinum Medallions as well as Platinum and Reserve Delta Amex cardholders). Let us know what they say.

They do charge, but IMHO it's worth it....

I have done this several times. But call NOW. While you are posting those "cheap" seats could get snatched up.

I have the seats on hold and will call today - I will let you all know what happens. But as stated I think it is going to cost around 300.00 to do the change - but for 60,000 miles it is worth it. Just annoying of course.

kybourn - I just did this! thank you for the post - I transfered 40,000 miles so 25% more... I am still waiting on the other situation - there is a chance we might change our entire vacation... I am so nervous about being in Hawaii due to my melanoma & and the sun... I can get two business seats to Milan during the same time period and am seeing if that is what we want to do instead...
