Hello!

This May I'll be travelling to NYC from India, and was hoping to get you guys' awesome advice for travel.

For the flight, I've narrowed down my best options to Lufthansa and Air France premium economy. I would like to know what you guys think would be the better option, as they're about the same price for me. My main considerations are seat comfort and legroom, with legroom being the main priority as I'm pretty tall.

Also, it appears that if I book the Air France round trip flight, I'll earn approx. 20000 miles on my flying blue membership. Would this be enough to upgrade my flights from NYC to India? It seems like that is the case according to Air France's miles calculator, but I just wanted to know for sure. ( I will be booked in 'W' class of PE if I book Air France)

I hope you get some replies soon about Lufthansa. I like them but have only been on Business or First (miles).

I've only traveled on Air France's PE -- I usually upgrade to business if I go (US west coast to Europe) -- but Air France's PE was decent --

I had window/bulkhead seat going over which was better than nonbulkhead seat on the way back (which was still ok). Only drawback for bulkhead is no under-seat storage during takeoff and landing and so possibly a crunch for carry-on bags. For me the mileage add-on would be a big plus for AF.

www.seatguru.com gives you seats sizes on various airlines, including prem economy section

I don't know about your miles, but don't know how you could upgrade based on miles you haven't earned yet (you don't earn them until you fly). So if you wait until after you earn them, those seats probably won't be available or the cost will have gone up. YOu can check and see, no harm in that (on most airlines, you can go in and change seat selection and if prem econom is still available, they'll tell you if you can).

I don't know about seat comfort, I think both those airlines have the same space in Prem Economy in terms of what you are paying for (seat width and distance).

I haven't flown Lufthansa PE so can't comment but have done Air France PE numerous times and it's good. I like that AF PE seats are the hard shell type, so that means no one leans back in your space, a huge plus for me. Also there is a foot rest, the seat doesn't lie flat but it's the most comfy PE seat in my opinion.

I fly Premium Economy on Air France from L.A. to Paris. I find it fine and the seats comfortable. I haven't flown Premium Economy Class on Lufthansa, but am not fond of Lufthansa in general. I'll have to fly Lufthansa in Economy Class within Europe on this upcoming summer trip, but it will be a short flight.

If I were to choose between Air France and Lufthansa, on long-haul flights, I'd go with Air France. I've been on Lufthansa around both Europe and from Europe to Africa, I think it was. I like Air France as their entertainment system is very good and the food isn't that bad.

I fly PE on Lufthansa between FRA and PHL a couple of times a year. The flight is on their alliance cityliner jets (A340) and I love the PE configuration there. It's only a few rows in a 2-3-2 configuration, it's a separate cabin area, and the seats are comfortable. FWIW, on that configuration, if you're in row 6 and in seats A or C, you'll be the first off the plane. Lufthansa also lets PE board with business (at least, they have in FRA and PHL), although they don't publicly announce it.

We've been quite pleased with Lufthansa PE in this configuration. I'm flying PE with them again in September.

I do recall seeing a Lufthansa PE configuration that was just a clutch of rows at the front of economy with extra legroom but no real separation. That didn't appeal at all. So I suggest you check the most likely plane configuration before making your decision.
