Possibility of purchasing Delta upgrade?

My daughter is returning from Bangkok to Seattle via Tokyo in a few days. She's pregnant, claustrophobic, has anxiety issues (but can't take meds because of the pregnancy). She made the huge effort to get here because of her brother's wedding last weekend in Chiang Mai. Her husband had to return to work Sunday so she has no one to hold her hand, unlike on the outbound trip when he did a good job of keeping her calm. Now she has to return home by herself Thursday.

Short of changing my tickets and flying home with her, is there any possibility of purchasing an upgrade (or escort?) for her from Delta when she checks in online tomorrow? Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Upgrades are basically paying the difference between the fare already paid and the fare for Business Elite class.

Next summer, too late for this case, people will be able to purchase upgrades to Delta's Economy Comfort class for $80-160 one-way.

Sorry, but the only option is likely to be a new ticket. Delta does not generally offer paid upgrades. Might be worth asking, though, you might get lucky.

Give the www.delta.com check in staff a heads up

on her pregnancy and medical conditions they will

usually upgrade to best available for a fee

and give her top priority over all others

particularly if a Skymiles member.

If she has Skymiles points they will take those for upgrades

have done that several times.

Only if in an eligible fare class. For international flights, you can only upgrade from the 3 highest fare classes, which tend to be quite pricey.
