We are arriving on Lufthansa from Newark in Frankfurt and will be catching a connecting flight to Zurich. Our Jack is an in-cabin traveler so we were wondering if there is a pet relief area he can use before we board our flight to Zurich.

A search of Frankfurt airport website doesn't show a pet relief area but there is a dog hotel there and there is an animal protection officers office listed with a phone and an email. You could call or send an email and ask.
"To ask questions of the animal protection officer:
Phone: +49 (0) 69 690 - 21366 or +49 (0) 69 690 - 74331
E-mail: avi-services@fraport.de , p.russ@fraport.de"
Thanks.
There is an animal lounge available at the Frankfurt airport's cargo hub to cater your pet's needs. More details are available here: http://www.frankfurt-airport.com/content/frankfurt_airport/en/business_location/cargo_hub/animal_lounge.html
The CargoCity is not connected to the passenger terminals in FRA. It's a seperate airport of its own where you can't just walk to.

If you have enough time, and have your boarding passes for the connecting flight, you can follow signs for exit Frankfurt till you get out of the airport.
Actually, you will not lose any time (aside from finding your way outside the terminal building), as there will be one stop at a security checkpoint regardless whether you transfer directly, or make a trip to the fresh air first.
You should be at the security check entrance 45-60mins before departure time for Zurich if you decide to go outside.
In Germany, a "pet relief area" is any square meter or square foot that is not within a building
But when you arrive at T1, your dog will find many trees at western end of the terminal building. Which will be left once you stepped outside.
Note that Cargo City is not a separate airport. It's just located at a different place on the grounds of the same airport (GRA).
GRA = FRA of course!
Thanks for the info. We have a little over an hour before our connecting flight to Zurich. Don't think I will have time to get outdoors. However our Jack is very good at holding his own. Yes I was aware the Lounge would not be something to get over to while there.
Since my end destinmation is Zurich, do I go through customs and passport control in Frankfurt?
Well, I guess I forget the little word "like".. so CargoCity is LIKE a different airport which has only so much in common with the pax terminals as they use the same runways.
Operaman, you will go through passport control and a security checkpoint when transferring airside to your Zurich flight.
In Zurich, you will go through customs after you picked up your luggage (assuming that your whole trip is on "one ticket").
It's the same system as elsewhere in the EU: You walk out either thru the green exit (nothing to declare) or red exit (goods to declare). There will only be random spot controls.
Cowboy1968, Thanks for the info. I would imagine that Zurich customs is where they will look at our dog's paperwork then since we are on one ticket. Hope the weather is good over in Lech as that is where we will be heading right out to on Aug 11 after clearing Zurich airport. Thanks again.
Not sure about the dog.
Keep in mind that Customs is not Immigration.
Customs is only about luggage, stuff, goods, monies. Not sure if a dog counts as such
And, other as in the US, you usually don't even have an agent sitting visibly at the Customs exit. You don't fill out any Customs declaration on the plane. You simply walk out.
But as many people travel with pets, there should be others who can give you real advice.
Yes, we went to Vienna last Christmas and no one even looked at our Jack's papers. It wasn't until we entered the US coming back, the US Customs wanted to look...glad I kept them with me.
HI I am curious as to how you are able to have your dog as an in-cabin passenger. We are also flying Lufthansa with our West Highland Terrier and were told he is too big and must fly cargo.
We were told he has to be able to comfortably stand under the seat in front and that height is at his shoulders so it wont work.
thanks for your input
We fudged it. We flew Lufthansa Business Class. Lufthansa has an 8kg limit, Thor is right at that without his carrier. I have a backpack carrier that I modified so it would give a bit when under the seat. The backpack is good because when it is upright Thor can stand comfortably, when you lay it on its back he can lie down just fine. Now when we went to check-in the agent just asked how much he weighed and I said about 6 kilos. She eyed him for a moment and I said I had no other carry on baggage (which was true). In Business Class you are allowed 2 carry on pieces so I was prepared to argue that I was in fact under the total allowable weight limit, however she just said he was cute and gave me my bill for him as excess baggage that I paid at a different counter. Business class has more than enough room for Thor. He was allowed to have his head out of his carrier and was adored by all the staff.
