Paris in mid-March to early April: SAN-PAR

HI there! I am planning a trip to Paris from mid-March to early April 2005. I've been surveying prices on the web for some time now and so far, the best I've seen is $640RT SAN (San Diego) to CDG.

As I have not traveled to Paris at this time of year, I cannot decide whether or not this is a good deal or not? Could anyone please provide input? Thank you so much!

Craisin, may I suggest that you post this thread on the Europe Board. You will get more responses.

It's a decent fare, for what you're getting. It's possible that it could be had for less at some point within the next 2-3 months, but that is always a roll of the dice.

The very best fares often run through mid to late March, so the April return can make it a little higher than what would prevail a month earlier. There is some upward pressure on European fares right now as carriers attempt to try to recover higher fuel costs and Euro-denominated costs that are pinching them. If a player such as U.S. Air would happen to drop from the market or cut back services, it would increase that pressure.

Crystal ball, anyone?

Continental, today, is offering this for $592. My research has led me to conclude that prices two months prior to the flight date are at their lowest, absent special sales (and of course things do change frequently).

I think $592 is a pretty good price, but if you want to risk it, I would suggest you research which airlines cover your route, then monitor them for sales until early January. If a great price shows up, pounce on it immediately, as seats are often limited. If no sale shows up, go ahead and buy before February.

Indicentally, I believe flights on weekends and Thursdays and Fridays are marginally more expensive, so for the very lowest fares try to fly on M-W.

craisin.....Depending on your dates, you could go to delta.com and get a fare of $543.81...I put in March 14 and returning April 7.If you can stick to Monday thru Thursday travel dates, you will save a few bucks.Best of Luck!

Thanks for the replies. I've been scouting prices since the beginning of November. I am travelling M-Th. I was just a bit skeptical about this price because it stayed the same throughout the week (even on weekends when they usually jump up).

I haven't done my early morning check today...so thanks for the tips on the new fare on continental and delta.

If anyone else can provide input, please, please do so. THANKS!

P.S. LoveItaly, I was planning to post in the Europe board but as you may already know, depending on the mood of the group, some are helpful, while others will pounce on you for posting such a question on the Europe board instead of this one! Sad, huh?

You might also try participating in the http://eurotrip.com cheap flights forum. They are often the first to find good fares.

craisin, I do understand. Believe me I do. But there are mostly wonderful people on the Europe Board. But I would be the first to agree there are shall we just leave it as some "unpleasant persons".

But a questions like yours should not bring up any of these people. It is more the political and monetary (Euro vs US dollars) post for example that seem to bring out a few of the arguemenative or sarcastic ones plus shall we nicely say a few weird post.

But the overall majority are sincere and kind people that have traveled to Europe and very happy to share their experiences and knowledge.

Do have a beautiful trip, and Happy Thanksgiving.

An airfare around the $500 price tag is good during that time of the year. April is the cut off month for the winter special fares. Sometimes Air Tahiti Nui from LAX offers fares in the $400. Check from LAX, but consider the cost of driving 2 hours with the high cost of gasoline in Southern California. Orange County (SNA) can also be an option.
