Overnight connection

I'm booked on BA from IAH to BOD. The flight goes into LHR one day, then out of Gatwick the next day to BOD.. My question is about checking luggage. I want to check from IAH to LHR, pick up luggage, then check the next day Gatwick to BOD. Possible? Probably a stupid question, but I've not done this kind of connection before so I would appreciate input. Anything else I should know? Thanks.

I'm not sure if the rules are the same, but with a recent overnight connection in Dallas going from Chicage to Puerto Vallarta on American, the airline required me to pick up my luggage after the first flight. I couldn't just check it all the way through. You might want to check with the airline. Or, just pack a change of clothes in your carry-on.

Picking up your bags at Heathrow is not only possible, it's mandatory. When connecting between LHR and LGW, you are responsible for hauling both yourself and your luggage.

This isn't like a connection at DFW - it is two different airports 45 miles apart. As Don says, you couldn't check your bags through even if you wanted to . . .

What times do you arrive and depart - where are you staying? Depending on the flight times, staying at LHR, at LGW, or in central could each make most sense.

And to answer your questions "anything else I should know?" the airline does not provide transportation between the two airports or your overnight hotel stay. You must arrange and pay for yourself. There are a few different options of car service, bus, train, etc. and you could choose to stay near either airport or in Central London but what makes sense will depend on your time, budget etc.

Thanks so much to each of you for your advice. We arrive 7:40 a.m. at LHR. We plan to take a bus to GTW and on to Premier Inn North Terminal which is where we fly out the next morning at 7:10 a.m. It looks like we will have time to go into London for a few hours after we get settled and we're looking forward to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in London. Our flight next morning is early, so no late night on the town. Again, I appreciate your input.

I missed that part:

"This isn't like a connection at DFW - it is two different airports 45 miles apart. As Don says, you couldn't check your bags through even if you wanted to . . "

GTW is in the Czech Republic. BUT if you are arriving at 7:40am why not stay in London near Victoria and take an early train to the airport

There are trains every 30 minutes from 3:00am

AlanRow, thanks for the heads up. My head was obviously elsewhere. Of course Gatwick is LGW.

traveling internationally, i think you are require to pick up certain luggage and then re-check them back in again. But it is also based on the destination or where you are landing. For example, when i was traveling from miami to bonaire. they require me to check luggage out and back in again at peurto rico.

What has that got to do w/ anything? Doesn't relate to this OP at all. If you are flogging your company - you might want to know what you are talking about.
