No Through-Checking Baggage after Jan. 1

Jump to last reply

Delta, Hawaiian and US Air say they will not transfer baggage if your flights are not all on one ticket. (Article in the Chicago Tribune Sunday Travel section.)

Hawaiian tried this in June but backed down. Now I don't know what to expect when we fly ORD-HNL-OGG Jan. 4. If baggage can't be through-checked we will have to claim ours in HNL, re-check with Hawaiian (and pay fee), then go through security again before boarding to OGG.

I booked the whole thing with AA in May, but was given two tickets -- the separate one is for the HNL-OGG flight.

I can't wait to see the TSA lines at HNL.

Do these lines WANT travelers to continue bringing the kitchen sink as carry-on, delaying flights as they stuff the overhead bins? Got other plans for the baggage hold?

I am FUMING -- in part because neither AA nor HA will officially confirm a scenario.
