JFK-LHR-Athens. How much time is needed at Heathrow?
We're leaving in three weeks. Have always flown non-stop to Athens, so this is new for us. Do we need to go through customs/passport control at LHR before our connecting flight to Athens? This is all on one ticket, AA codeshare with British Airways. Just keeping our fingers crossed that the BA strike doesn't impact us! Thanks so much for your help!

Go to the Heathrow Airport website (www.heathrow.com) and click on the "Connections" link on the left hand side of the page - on the new page enter your planned date of travel and your flight information. You'll be given step by step instructions for that particular connection, including time estimates.

If it's all on one ticket, you'll go through security at Heathrow but not passport control nor customs. An airline won't sell you a ticket that includes an "illegal" connection, i.e. one that doesn't meet published minimum connection times.

True, but the airlines' definition of "minimum" and mine do not always match. Plus, it depends on the inbound arriving at the gate on time.
Is that also true of online travel sites?

For all intents and purposes, this is what you'd deal with. I used my home airport, but you're still coming into Terminal 3 and departing Terminal 5.

How do you know that? The OP said they're flying on an AA codeshare with BA, but that doesn't mean they aren't on BA metal to London, in which case the whole connection would be in T5.
