Is 1hr 10 mins enough time for customs at newark International airport

I would be travelling from Mumbai to US via Frankfurt.I have a flight via Frankfurt reaching EWR Liberty at 2:15 pm on a Thursday in June.My connecting flight to Nashville is at 3:27 PM from EWR-Liberty.Is this enough time to get the customs clearance collecting the baggage and re-checking it. ?

Nope, and it is not listed as a legal connection. However, both flights are on United, so if this is all on one ticket, United will put you on the next available flight to Nashville (there are flights from Newark at 5.28pm & 7.03pm).

Those flights are both UA, but MCT is 90 minutes, so clearly not on same ticket. Definitely not enough time, as there is immigration, baggage claim, customs, drop off bags, ride train to Terminal A, and reclearing security. 60 minutes to do all that on a good day.

It might be possible with four conditions:

1. You are traveling with carry on luggage only, so you don't have to wait for baggage to arrive on the carousel.

2. You are enrolled in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Global Entry program so you don't have to stand in line for immigration (or customs).

3. You are traveling in First or Business so cabin crew will help you through to the front of the line for deplaning.

4. And of course your flight has to arrive on time.

I made a similar short connection last week arriving from overseas, not because I planned it that way but because my flight was delayed over an hour. I was one of the first off the plane, through Global Entry and on the train to my connecting terminal within 20 minutes of parking at the gate. So it can be done, but I'd rather not - too nerve-racking.

I'd recommend you call your airline for a later flight onward.

And it is not customs, but immigration, that will take the most time, unless you have Global Entry.

Sorry, but everyone else is correct. This is not nearly enough time. Not even close.

Since you are even asking it would seem clear that most of julia1's list don't apply.

Therefore - nope. Not a chance.

I say no. Nothing even about the specific airport or flights but all it would take is for your 1st flight to be late and you are plain out of luck.

My last international>domestic connection at Newark in January (all United) took one hour and 40 minutes from the time the door of the plane opened until I was through security in the domestic terminal...and I have Global Entry and access to priority security lines (but did have a checked bag). It was a real mess.

I just booked a ticket for my daughter to return from Lima via Newark and bypassed a 1:30 connection in favor of a longer one.

To pile on, I've spent an hour waiting for a checked bag per-imigration and customs at Newark not to mention going through immigration and re-clearing security.
