I am talking about changing seating before date. The thinking is having a printed itinerary from airline will keep me from being bumped.

Having a printed itinerary will not keep you from being bumped. All airlines oversell their flights, has nothing to do with an itinerary at all.

If you think you can get better seats, I would suggest doing it, and calling back in a few days to make sure that the new seats are reserved as you want them.

Don't worry, you'll never get bumped.

If the flight is overbooked they'll bribe passengers to get off.

Yes --definity prebook your seats even if you dont like where you are sitting.

If the flight is oversold (which happens ALOT) and your seat is not preassigned you will be asked to take the next flight --having a ticket gives you a reservation --no seat provides you with a huge chance of getting bumped.

On the other hand -if you dont do your seats and you get to the airport --make a stink that you have to get on that flight, then you also have a chance tgo get into business class.

Its the chance you take.
good luck
