Getting a ride to Toronto Airport. Driver must have passport?

I am a US citizen. I need to fly out of Toronto. How do I get across the border with a driver if they don't have a passport. What are my alternatives?

You can take Amtrak's Maple Leaf service from Buffalo or Niagara Falls to Toronto, and the UP Express from Toronto station to the airport. Whether the Amtrak times work for you is another matter.

Or you can find a driver with a passport or "passport equivalence".

Your driver does not get a pass by saying "I am just the driver". They need the proper documents to enter Canada and then back into US. List of requirements are easily found on-line (for entry into US at Dept of State website). While people on Fodors have a lot of experience with travel - go to the country website and get the official word.

Shuttle service from Buffalo airport? Or maybe it would be cheaper for the driver to get a passport, if there is time.

You don't say where you are coming from, but if you really want to do this by taxi (which would be expensive), why wouldn't you simply walk across the border and get a taxi on the Canada side?

I figured he was being by a friend/relative. I would have thought local taxi drivers would have figured this one out.

There are definitely shuttles from Buffalo to the Toronto airport. I can't figure out if the OP is going to be in Niagara Falls or is just trying to get to the Toronto Airport from Buffalo.

Ah, yes @thursdaysd. I think you're right. That makes sense.
