Flying through Istanbul onto Montenego-Safety?
Thinking of going to Montenego and one of the airlines that goes there from JFK is Turkish Airlines, which makes a stop in Istanbul. How safe would this journey be? Turkish Airlines is one of the cheaper ones that flies to Montenego, so that is why I'm checking it out.

The US State department issued a Travel warning for Istanbul on October 29, 2016. That should tell you something. Go here for more details:

Just for the heck of it I did a quick check on random dates in January and found several other airlines with other routings that are at least $250 lower and get you there quicker than flying Turkish Airlines via Istanbul.

Monteneg(r)o ?
I was in Instabul not so long ago. When going to bed the day before taking my flight back, I heard they had bombed the airport.
Some people here say that Erdogan is not worse than Trump - go figure.

RoamsAround - We would be going in April so I'm not sure that other airlines would be cheaper than Turkish at that time.
I'm thinking that we should take another airline that doesn't change planes in Istanbul just for our own peace of mind. No use saving a few hundred $ to be worried the whole time.
And yes, it should be Montenegro.

I flew Turkish Airlines to Istanbul in September, spent a couple of nights in an airport hotel and flew out on Uzbekistan Airlines. No issues, except that the food on Turkish was much worse than the last time I flew them (but the flight was from London, not the US). If you are just transitioning in the airport I don't think you should have any concerns. However, who knows what the situation will be in the spring?

Newbe - Huh? What in the world is wrong with you?
thursdaysd - Yes, awful. And no, not near the airport, but it's a big world to fly into and out of.
I often wonder how people mentally survive in war torn areas. What we humans do to each other.
