Flying Economy Comfort on a Delta Int'l flight. Worth it?
In a couple of weeks we are due to fly on an Delta international from AMS to the States. That would be on an Airbus A330-300. I checked our seats on Delta and it appears that there are some Economy Comfort seats available for extra cost- approx. 80 USD per seat. What is the difference between these seats and the regular ones? It appears there is a row available that butts up to the serving galley. Are they worth the money for a nine hour flight?

As best as I can tell, it looks like in economy comfort there is no additional recline than in economy. Seat width is the same, but pitch is 5"-7" more.
If you're tall, it probably would make a difference.
Also, seats 10 A-B are exit row seats, on the far side of the lavatory, so they might be a better bet. However, they're probably taken first.

We recently flew this route. The seats are absolutely worth the extra dollars. However......oddly we were all full in Econ+, while the standard coach section was half empty. People were actually stretched out across five seats lying down to sleep in the back while we Econ+ were all cramped together. So, in that regard, it might be good to check out other seating. Airlines are taking some heat recently for manipulating the seat availability maps so it appears that Econ+ is the best (or only) choice.

Didn't fly Delta but did a direct from Calgary to London on the way to Madrid. Went Econ.plus and yes it was well worth the extra $., especially coming back as the plane was chock full..If you can't go business then econ. plus is a pretty good deal..food, drinks and nicely recling seats. Seat guru will tell you which seats to avoid and Delta website should be able to tell you what is avaiable for booking. Prebooking may cost a bit more but that will be up to you..

I have a slightly different question. Is Economy Comfort worth the money (or better at all) for Medallion members that already have a confirmed exit row seat? I will be heading to Peru in a couple of months and I am trying to figure out if I should go with EC over the exit row that I am already confirmed in. My experience with EC domestically is that the 4" of leg room is not nearly the stretch out you get in an exit row. EC is closer to the front, which is nice, but for a longer flight, I would rather have the legroom in the exit as opposed to EC. So what else do you really get? Well, for one, I think another advantage of EC is the seats are newly upholstered and in my opinion a bit more comfortable than the old seats in the aging Delta fleet. Still for a flight of length, I would choose the legroom. The last benefit that dealt talks about is the free "beer and wine." This makes no sense to me. I have ALWAYS gotten free drinks in coach for international flights. I called Delta about this to see if that has changed (delta.com still states that international flights of 6 hours or more, drinks are free in coach) and they said that the drinks policy has always been that you get one free drink in coach with your meal. I have flown internationally many many times and I have always had as many drinks as I can ask for, for the most part. Flight attendants are accommodating as long as you are not sloppy and don't look like you are disturbing anyone. So, in anyone's opinion that has taken an international flight since EC, do they enforce the one drink policy now and serve the EC passengers freely? If this is the case I think I would go with the EC as I like to have 4, 5, maybe six (or more?) drinks on long international flights.

Yes. I failed to mention that. I usually don't recline at all for short domestic flights, so while I have been in EC, I don't know what 50% more recline actually feels like. 50% of very little is not all that appealing, but maybe that makes a difference if you are trying to sleep. Honestly, the seat recline/feel/legroom is probably almost a wash for me. So the real tipping point will be the drinks. Even as a gold medallion I still have to pay $30 each way to Peru for EC. Do you know anything about the drink discussion that I brought up? I am thinking that I might roll the dice in Exit Row and if they have become sticklers about drinks in non EC seats, then $30 will buy me 4-5 drinks anyway.

@kybourbon - That's not my experience flying intl, but again that is before EC was launched. Also, that is contradictory to Delta.com which describes the free drinks in EC specifically as "Free beer and wine." My thought is that the official policy is: One free drink with your meal in economy. Free beer and Wine in EC. I have a feeling that neither of these policies are strictly adhered to is you are nice to the flight attendants and don't get out of control. I think I'm going to roll the dice in the exit row.

Instead of doing a new post, I thought I'd ask my related questions on this thread. I'm considering paying extra for the economy comfort seats DTW to AMS and then FRA back to DTW in early September. If I select my seats, I would hope to actually sit in the seats I pick, but it seems the fine print says they can move you to different seats if they want to. Does this happen often? Has anyone had a problem with this?

travlsolo2... I remember when Economy Plus or whatever your airline calls it I was considering it on British Airways. However, the fine print said that they could move me to economy if there was no EP available and I wouldn't get a refund. I wasn't going to take the chance of paying for something I wasn't going to get. I did 'love' how they downgrade you, not upgrade you. All for their benefit and yet they want repeat customers??
