Flying BA, have question about luggage being checked through to destination

We will be flying from SFO to LHR in June, and then continuing on to Nice, both flights on BA but on two separate tickets because we took advantage of a Business class seat sale that gets us to LHR only. BA says our bags 'might' be checked through, no guarantees, it will depend on the staff at SFO.

Anyone have any recent experience with this? I believe we arrive and depart the same terminal at LHR, and have 3 1/2 hours between flights. If they do not check our bags through, will this be enough time to retrieve bags and re-enter security? Anyone familiar with how that will go?

Thanks.

When you check in at SFO, just request that your luggage be checked through to Nice. I've done this with no problem and really don't understand why BA says there is no guarantee unless they don't want to take full responsibility.

I was on a BA flight from Denver to Milan via LHR and I did ask at check in if the luggage was checked through to Milan. It was, with no problems.

You shouldn't have any problems checking your luggage through to Nice - Just be prepared to show the ticket agent your ticket or Record Locator Number for your London to Nice flight.

The only issue might be if you bought a hand luggage only fare for the second leg. Otherwise, I'd be utterly shocked if this was an issue. Just have the ticket details for the second flight (ticket # & confirmation code) handy.
