Expired Canadian PR card

Was wondering the risk of travelling to the Dominican Republic from Canada with an expired PR card.

I have a British passport

I have submitted for a renewal - paid the 50.00 fee etc - I also have the expired PR card

I know my dad flew to Scotland and back and he also had expired PR card and was awaiting a new one. He just showed the CBSA his old card and proof that fee was paid for new one etc...

Would you think this would be same coming back from Dominican?

Thanks in advance for all replies!

cheers

-ewan
